Pleasant holidays in this calm campsite, close to the beach, very satisfactory reception. Good memories for me and the children.

Meneham guardhouse

Description

Nestled in the huge granite rocks...

This "house with a stone roof" was part of a coastal defense system set up in the 17th century by Vauban under the order of Louis XIV.
This system included an uninterrupted chain of watch posts (today called "Customs Houses") linked together in order to protect the coastline from enemy attacks, in particular from English raids.

Each parish had to maintain a certain number of these lookout posts and to provide a militia, recruited from among the inhabitants of the Commune.

This building has become a museographic space dedicated to the protection of the coast since July 2009.
